Job description

Senior Software Engineer (Global) Flexible Location

Location: Home Office SUSE Containers team is a cluster of people building the next-generation container orchestration platform.
We take pride in what we deliver here at SUSE on the Container as a Service Platform team. We are building the most easy and open solution in existence to help you manage your enterprise Kubernetes clusters, on premise or in the cloud.
We need you as a Senior Software Engineer to make use of many of the open source projects around the Kubernetes ecosystem and help us build a highly available, microservice based distributed systemsutilising some of the latest cuttingedge container technologies.
Kernel to Kubernetes and beyond!
We are looking for someone who loves to dabble in everything from automation, to systems engineering, to operations. Someone who enjoys working on complex problems and isn’t afraid to span the stack from network architecture all the way to contributions to Kubernetes. You should have an analytical mind, experience with computer science concepts and development processes, and a keen interest to learn new things. You will be able to articulate these ideas and assist in bringing these technologies to our customers and partners. At SUSE, we're strongly committed to open source and we contribute to numerous free and open projects and initiatives. We embrace and believe in the open source innovation model and the open source business model. As a member of the SUSE Containers as a Service team you will have the opportunity to contribute to Kubernetes and various other open source projects. You will work together with the teams on SUSE and the upstream communities for these projects and strive to continuously advance the state of the art to meet customer requirements. As a team, we're constantly finding new ways to improve ourselves. One way we do this is by hosting regular FOSS-themed “hack weeks,” where all developers (and we mean it) are encouraged to work on any project of their choosing, either individually or as a team. We pride ourselves on our communication and teamwork – we're all in this together! Curiosity, teamwork and excellent communication skills are the values that drive us as a global distributed engineering team. Are you passionate about these values? If yes, we would like to talk with you.
You have experience with:
  • Golang, Python
  • Software development lifecycle
  • Automated testing and frameworks - unit, integration and end-to-end testing
  • Operations on private clouds and public clouds (Openstack or AWS knowledge would be an asset)
  • Container fundamentals- Docker
  • Container orchestration solutions- Kubernetes
  • Linux operating systems
It is even better if you are familiar with:
  • DevOps - configuration management, CI and CD
  • Agile software development - Scrum, Kanban
  • Contributing to open source projects
